Guixia Zhu Death – On Monday morning, a tragic incident occurred in Flushing, resulting in the death of a 61-year-old woman. The victim, identified as Guixia Zhu, was cycling on 41st Avenue when she was struck by a van driver. The collision took place at the intersection of 41-01 Bowne St. at approximately 9:15 a.m.
Upon receiving a 911 call, officers from the 109th Precinct promptly arrived at the scene. They discovered the victim lying unconscious and unresponsive on the road, with severe injuries. Immediate medical attention was provided as EMS rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Guixia Zhu, a resident of Union Street, was identified as the victim. It is heart-wrenching to note that her home was just a little over half a mile away from the location of the fatal collision.
The initial investigation conducted by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad revealed that a 43-year-old man was driving a Sprinter van eastbound on 41st Avenue. As he made a left-hand turn onto Bowne Street, he collided with the victim who was cycling westbound on 41st Avenue.
The van driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. He was not arrested at the time. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, as stated by the NYPD.
