Ruben Ollarzabal Chairez Death – Authorities have identified the individual who was killed in an altercation with law enforcement officers on Tuesday evening. At 6:24 p.m. that day, deputies were dispatched to a residence on West Drive in rural Edinburg following a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they encountered a man armed with a knife, later identified as 51-year-old Ruben Ollarzabal Chairez, who refused to comply with their commands to drop the weapon.
Despite attempts to subdue him using less-lethal methods, Chairez continued to pose a threat to the deputies, resulting in the use of deadly force. Chief Deputy Mario Lopez explained during a press conference that the officers were forced to fire their weapons in self-defense as Chairez aggressively approached them.
It was revealed that Chairez had a history of domestic violence, including a prior arrest earlier in the year for making threats against his wife. Following standard procedure, the deputies involved in the incident have been reassigned to administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation.
