Bishop Jones-Daniel Death – A man from Forestville, Maryland, aged 28, was identified as the individual killed in a shooting involving an officer inside a Burtonsville apartment on May 30, as reported by the Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.
The incident took place at approximately 11:40 p.m. when Montgomery County police were called to respond to a distress call at an apartment located in the 33300 block of Hampton Point Drive.
The report indicated that an armed man was present inside the apartment with his mother, as relayed by the responding officers. The man, identified as Bishop Jones-Daniel, 28, from Forestville, Md., was confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office.
Upon arrival, gunshots were heard from within the apartment, prompting officers to call for SWAT assistance to negotiate with Jones-Daniel. Following entry into the apartment, SWAT engaged with Jones-Daniel, resulting in him being shot by officers.
Jones-Daniel was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, his mother was unharmed. The Montgomery County Police officer involved was identified as Officer Edward Cochran, a 14-year veteran from the Field Services Bureau.
Due to security concerns, the Attorney General’s office postponed the release of the officer and the deceased’s names on Monday, June 3.
However, the officer’s identity was disclosed on Tuesday, June 11.
