A Merrillville man was shot and killed at a Gary gas station early Monday morning.
Christian Farmer, 21, of the 600 block of E. 54th Place, was pronounced dead at around 2 a.m. on June 10th at the Citgo gas station located at 4700 Broadway, according to a Lake County Coroner’s release on Tuesday. Family members have identified him, the release stated.
Farmer’s death was ruled a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds, the release added.
In a separate incident from September 2023, a Gary teen was charged after allegedly shooting a father who was attempting to retrieve his son’s stolen bike. Xavier Maypray, 18, faces two counts of battery and is scheduled to go to trial in September 2024.
Additionally, in another case, Chicago resident Larry Boston claimed self-defense after shooting a friend during an argument on the way back from a barber shop on July 8, 2020. Despite his claim, he was convicted of murder and armed robbery with a firearms enhancement in 2022.
