Pablo Gutierrez Cruz,Reuben Lopez Perez Obituary, – The incident occurred at 6:19 p.m. on Monday on I-85 northbound near Valley in Chambers County. According to Valley Police Chief Mike Reynolds, the workers were mowing grass in the median when a vehicle traveling northbound veered off the road and struck them.
The driver, Randall Shane Lankford, 44, stated that he was in the left lane when a semi-truck from the right attempted to merge into his lane. This caused him to lose control of his vehicle and collide with the workers. Pablo Gutierrez Cruz, 44, and Reuben Lopez Perez, whose age is unknown, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rumaldo Lopez Perez, whose age is also unknown, was airlifted to a hospital in Columbus. Reynolds mentioned that his condition was not immediately provided. The investigation is being supported by ALEA State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
