Motorcyclist Died In Sunday Evening Accident On Old Ind. 37 At Dillman Road: Following a collision between his motorbike and an SUV on South Old Indiana 37 on Sunday, a man lost his life. At 5:42 p.m., there was a collision at the intersection of Old Indiana 37 heading south and East Dillman Road. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrived to discover an accident involving a 2020 Dodge Durango and a Yamaha motorcycle.
Witnesses said that the motorcycle was traveling east on Dillman Road toward South Old Indiana 37 at a fast pace and that it was ignoring the stop sign at the intersection, according to a press release. According to the news release, the collision occurred when the Dodge SUV was traveling north on Old State Road 37. Attempts by deputies to save the motorbike driver’s life by administering CPR and using an AED were not successful.
At the scene, the driver was declared deceased. His identity and notification of family members are being worked out by the Monroe County Coroner’s Office. The organization responsible for crash reconstruction in Monroe County is investigating the collision. The crossroads has been listed as a high-accident area by the county for years because there are at least five crashes there each year. In 2022, authorities issued an order for a study to find solutions for safety issues.
The intersection will be redesigned to increase safety as part of a roughly $2 million project that was announced by Indiana Department of Transportation officials a year ago. Beginning this year, construction was scheduled to conclude in the spring of 2025. The project will prevent vehicles from turning onto Indiana 37 to the left from Dillman. Rather, they will make a right turn first, then a U-turn to head south after merging into a left turn lane.
