In a heartbreaking incident on the evening of Thursday, June 6, a 14-year-old girl lost her life after a tree fell onto the car she was riding in on Reams Road, south of Summerlake Boulevard in Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports, the accident took place at approximately 6:49 p.m.
The tree, located on the west shoulder of Reams Road, toppled onto the roof of a 2011 Lexus. The young girl was seated in the rear right passenger seat of the vehicle. Emergency responders swiftly transported her to Orlando Health — Horizon West Hospital, where, despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Lexus, a 40-year-old woman, and a 12-year-old boy who was also a passenger in the car, miraculously escaped without injuries. The impact of the fallen tree was severe enough to block Reams Road in both directions, causing significant traffic disruption in the area.
As the community grapples with the sudden loss, the FHP has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tree’s collapse and whether any preventive measures could have been taken. The investigation aims to provide answers and potentially prevent similar tragedies in the future.
This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictability of natural events and the fragility of life. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl during this incredibly difficult time.
