Joshua Nelson Obituary, Death – Joshua Nelson, 35, of Sidney, has been identified by the police as the man who tragically lost his life in the collision that occurred on Wednesday at the intersection of Trafton and West River roads. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the dump truck driven by Nelson collided with the driver’s side door of a Toyota Camry. This information was provided in a statement on Friday by Maj. Jason Longley of the Waterville Police Department.
According to the authorities, the driver of the Camry, who is a juvenile and remains unnamed, was making a left turn from Trafton Road onto West River Road at the time of the accident. The impact of the collision caused both Nelson and the other driver to be ejected from their vehicles. Tragically, Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses to the crash, who were roofers working nearby, immediately called 911 and attempted to assist those involved in the wreck. The driver of the Camry, whose identity has not been disclosed due to being a minor, was initially taken to Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville for treatment of significant injuries. Subsequently, they were transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Given that a commercial vehicle was involved in the collision, the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit is conducting an investigation. This includes reconstructing the crash and utilizing forensic mapping techniques. At this time, the Waterville police have not disclosed the name of the company for which Nelson was employed as a dump truck driver.
