Canton Township police are investigating a crash early Thursday that resulted in the death of a driver. According to the Canton Public Safety Department, the incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Michigan Avenue near South Lilley Road.
A 32-year-old woman from Belleville was driving west on Michigan Avenue when another driver, operating a red GMC Acadia, struck her car head-on. Emergency medical responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported both drivers to local hospitals.
Unfortunately, the Belleville woman was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the GMC, a 37-year-old man from Ypsilanti, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the hospital. Investigators suspect that alcohol played a role in the crash. Further details have not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
