45-year-old Anthony Edward Jones of 2nd Street in Morganton was arrested last Friday (May 31) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of assault by strangulation, trafficking, opium or heroin, possession of schedule II controlled substance, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance. Jones is also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and crime of domestic violence.
Jones was arrested shortly before midnight last Friday at an address on U.S. Highway 70A East in Hildebran. Jones was brought to the Burke County Jail and initially jailed under no bond on a 48-hour hold. Bond has since been set at $80,000 secured. A District Court date is scheduled for June 24.
