Delroy George Parkes Obituary, – The man who was killed in a shooting behind an Etobicoke school late Sunday evening has been identified by police as Delroy “George” Parkes, a 61-year-old resident of Woodstock.
On Sunday night, Parkes was with a group of men in a parking lot behind North Albion Collegiate Institute after a soccer game. Just before 11 p.m., a dark pickup truck pulled up behind the school, and two individuals emerged. They opened fire on the men, resulting in Parkes’ death and serious injuries to four other men aged between 40s and 60s.
Police responded within three minutes, and the victims were taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, Parkes passed away due to his injuries. During a news conference on Monday, Supt. Ron Taverner mentioned that over 50 bullets were fired at the scene, and the men were considered “completely innocent victims.”
Bullet casings were scattered on the ground near the parking lot, and bullet holes were visible in the school building and cars. Some bullets even entered the empty school building.
Neighbors mentioned that before the shooting, the men were having a typical night grilling food and playing dominoes after a soccer game. With limited community spaces available, Parkes and his friends have been using the area at North Albion Collegiate Institute for many years. Sophia Dunn, a cousin of Parkes and mother-in-law of another victim, Seymour Gibbs, shared that they rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news. Gibbs was unaware of George’s passing until Dunn’s daughter informed him, causing his blood pressure to rise. Dunn expressed her concern about the ongoing violence, stating that it is detrimental to the community and creates fear and terror. Authorities are still on the lookout for two suspects and a newer model dark-colored vehicle.
