A large wildfire named Corral Fire broke out in San Joaquin County near Tracy on Saturday. Firefighters are battling the blaze near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.A large wildfire named Corral Fire broke out in San Joaquin County near Tracy on Saturday. Firefighters are battling the blaze near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.The fire has spread to over 11,000 acres and is only 13% contained so far. Caltrans reports that I-580 is closed between Alameda and Stanislaus counties, and SR-132 is closed from I-580 to SR 33.
Sadly, two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, one seriously and one with minor injuries. Both were taken to the hospital for care.
There’s good news for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Spokesperson Michael Padilla says the fire has moved away from their Site 300 near Tracy, so it’s not in danger.
He assures there’s no contamination on or off-site. As a precaution though, the lab will keep their emergency center running to monitor the situation throughout the weekend.
