Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County reported that a man and his motorcycle were discovered in the western ditch along County Road 29 early on May 26. The collision occurred between Kitley Line 6 and Kinch Street, just outside the village of Toledo, approximately 20 kilometers south of Smiths Falls. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the collision is ongoing.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the motorcycle cold to the touch. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the motorcycle operator, David Nitschmann, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nitschmann officially began his career in 2008, according to Lanark County officials. He was remembered by his colleagues for his compassionate nature and his infectious laughter, earning him the reputation of being a great paramedic and a dear friend.
Born in 1987 on May 1, Nitschmann was described as a natural fit for the role of a paramedic due to his empathetic personality and his passion for helping others.
