Kevin Wright Obituary – Judge Carlyn Addison, a Shelby County Criminal Court judge overseeing Division 5 at the Shelby County Jail, identified the inmate as 57-year-old Kevin Wright. The inmate, who was in the midst of a criminal court trial, tragically passed away, as confirmed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
Wright had been apprehended in 2021 and faced charges of murder and kidnapping. Investigators alleged that he had shot a woman in the leg and subsequently killed a man at a residence on July 19, 2020. Prosecutors stated that after the incident, Wright abducted the woman, who managed to reach her cell phone, dial 911, and whisper “He shot me.” Consequently, Wright faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.
According to the SCSO, the inmate was discovered unresponsive at approximately 7 a.m. Immediate life-saving measures were administered, and he was swiftly transported to Methodist University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his condition. The exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed. The sheriff’s office has announced that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will conduct an inquiry into the inmate’s demise.
