The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday morning that Parmeley had shot her 9-year-old daughter to death and drowned her 2-year-old son. Parmeley was accused of second-degree murder for her son’s death and first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the death of her daughter. At a press conference, Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak gave a full account of the incident. Disoriented and drenched, Parmeley called the Festus Police Department from the parking lot and admitted to the offenses.
It was in the car’s trunk that officers discovered her daughter, Scarlet Parmeley, dead from a gunshot wound. Parmeley claimed to have drowned the two-year-old boy, who was found unconscious in a Timber Creek Resort fountain. Scarlet was a lively third-grader at Festus Elementary School, and her passing is mourned by the community. To assist staff and kids, the school system has scheduled grief counselors.
