One person was taken to a Connecticut burn center after being rescued from a vehicle that was on fire inside a garage at a multi-family home in Norwalk on Wednesday.

Crews responded to the report of a house fire on Fairfield Avenue at 10:31 a.m. and found that a car was on fire in the garage of the three-story, multi-family home, according to Steve Shay, deputy chief of the Norwalk Fire Department.

While firefighters were battling the blaze they discovered that an occupant of the home was in the burning car, Shay said. A wall had to be breached before crews could open the door and rescue the victim, according to Shay.

The individual was initially taken to Norwalk Hospital before being transported to the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital. Their condition was not immediately clear.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the garage area, Shay said. Some floors above sustained smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
