A new baby arrived for a Meriden family during the blizzard conditions that gripped Connecticut overnight Sunday into Monday, according to hospital officials.
Hartford Healthcare staff said the first‑time mother arrived at MidState Medical Center on Sunday evening just as the storm began to intensify.
“After laboring through the height of the blizzard, she delivered a healthy baby girl named Aria,” who weighs 6 pounds and 13 ounces, at about 6:30 a.m. on Monday, February 23, according to Hartford Healthcare. The mom and baby were resting comfortably and doing well, according to the health system.

“While winter storms can create hazardous travel conditions, they can also bring moments of unexpected joy inside the hospital,” the health system noted.
“We often see a slight increase in labor activity during major weather events,” said Drew Metzger, MD, MBA, medical director at MidState Medical Center. “Changes in barometric pressure during strong storms can sometimes influence when labor begins, and Blizzard Calvin was no exception.”
