Lily Basil Obituary – On May 25th, authorities were summoned to 1417 Hanson Drive in response to a shooting incident. A witness contacted 911 to report that an individual, later identified as 18-year-old Lily Basil, had sustained a gunshot wound to her right shoulder. Emergency services were directed to meet the individual transporting Basil to the hospital at Murfreesboro Road near Carothers Parkway for immediate medical attention.
Basil was subsequently taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where she succumbed to her injuries. Investigators at the scene identified the potential shooter as Matthew Roufail, who reportedly left the location to seek medical assistance. Roufail was apprehended for questioning and admitted to shooting Basil, claiming it was accidental. According to law enforcement officials, he believed the AR-15-style rifle he used was not loaded. Following the investigation, Roufail was arrested, charged with criminal homicide, and detained on a $150,000 bond.
