The UConn women’s basketball team added a marquee matchup to its 2026-27 schedule on Wednesday, announcing that it will face South Carolina in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase next season at Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Huskies have appeared in the Hall of Fame Showcase every season since 2021-22, and the Gamecocks last appeared in 2023-24. UConn will play two games at the event in Uncasville this year against No. 13 Michigan on Nov. 21 and Utah on Nov. 23. Next season’s matchup in the showcase will be played Nov. 24, 2026.
UConn and South Carolina have gone head-to-head at least once every season since 2015, but the rivalry series is on a hiatus this year because of scheduling conflicts for the Huskies after the Big East expanded from 18 to 20 conference games. UConn leads the all-time series 11-5, and every meeting has been a top-15 matchup except for the first two in 2007 and 2008 when the Gamecocks were unranked.
The Huskies ended a slump of four consecutive losses in the series when they snapped South Carolina’s 71-game home winning streak with an 87-58 victory in Columbia last February. The teams faced off again in the NCAA Championship game in April, and UConn brought home its 13th national title with an 82-59 win over the 2024 defending champions. It was the second time the Gamecocks and Huskies had met in a national final after South Carolina delivered UConn its first-ever championship loss to win the title in 2022. The two programs have combined to win eight of the last 12 NCAA Championships.
Next year’s meeting at Mohegan Sun will be the second time the teams have played at a neutral site outside of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies lost to the Gamecocks at Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in Paradise Island, Bahamas in Nov. 2021.
