A man was arrested after police said they found him with a stolen motorcycle in Wallingford on Sunday.
The motorcycle was found in the back of a black Chevrolet pickup truck that was spotted on North Colony Road, according to the Wallingford Police Department.
Police said they were alerted to the stolen bike when investigators “developed information” suggesting it was concealed in the bed of the pickup truck with a Carvana temporary registration. Police canvassed the area and spotted the motorcycle in a business in the 900 block.
Police checked the bike’s vehicle identification number and found that it had been reported stolen in New York City. The driver of the pickup truck, 34-year-old Grantley Laylor, told officers he had recently bought the motorcycle, according to police. He did not have any documentation for the bike or the transaction, police said.
Officers also found that Laylor had a warrant out for his arrest. The warrant stemmed from a re-arrest order issued by a judge in connection with pending charges filed by the Norwalk Police Department.
Laylor was taken into custody and charged with possession of the stolen motorcycle, police said. He was released on bonds totaling $15,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27.
“The Wallingford Police Department continues to prioritize proactive enforcement efforts targeting the illegal sale and possession of stolen vehicles,” Lt. Stephen S. Jaques, Jr. said in a statement. “Anyone with information related to vehicle theft or suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the Wallingford Police Department.”
