Police: Knife-wielding man shot, killed by officer in Hartford

One man was shot and killed by a police officer in Hartford on Thursday.

The shooting occurred on Capitol Avenue after the man allegedly pulled out a knife, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.

Boisvert said police were called to an apartment at 990 Capitol Ave. to assist the Capitol Region Mental Health Center with an evaluation around 10 a.m. During the incident, the man who was being evaluated allegedly pulled out a knife before at least one officer fired shots, according to Boisvert.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Boisvert said. He has not been identified.

Two officers were evaluated but were not injured, according to Boisvert.

The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is investigating the shooting. Additional details were not immediately released.
