Kourtney Freeman Obituary – Police confirmed on Tuesday a juvenile was taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of 11-year-old Kourtney Freeman. On Thursday, the Jackson County 16th Judicial Circuit Court confirmed charges had been filed.
The juvenile was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, one count of unlawful use of a weapon and several misdemeanor assault counts. A District Court spokesperson stated that because some of the charges were felonies that qualified for a mandatory certification hearing, a request for a certification hearing has been filed, but not yet scheduled.
Police said someone shot and killed Kourtney Freeman just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 10. Investigators said she was inside her home near 33rd St. and Flora Ave. when a bullet fired from outside the house flew inside and hit her.
