A 16-year-old driver from Waterbury and his 18-year-old female passenger were killed Sunday morning when he lost control of his car in the left lane of I-84 in Cheshire, hit another vehicle, spun across two lanes and crashed into a pickup truck.
Abdriel Negron was driving a Honda Fit westbound near Exit 25A when the crash happened just before 8 a.m., state police said.
The 2008 Honda Fit that he was driving swerved to the right and hit the back of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, then spun across the center lane and slammed into a Ford F-150 in the right lane, Trooper Ilias Bistolas reported.
Negron, of 150 Willow St., Waterbury, was killed. He had turned 16 in December. Negron’s only passenger, Sheily Briceno of 57 Francis Ave, Hartford, was also killed. She turned 18 in December.
The two other drivers reported no injuries. Bistolas and troopers from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad are investigating.
