Blaine Varner Obituary – The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the innocent driver who was shot and killed during a shootout in Sumter. Coroner Robbie Baker has identified the victim as 59-year-old Blaine Varner of Sumter. According to the Sumter Police Department, witnesses reported gunfire between two cars traveling on North Purdy Street near Broad Street around 12:30 pm on Monday.
Authorities mentioned that as officers were responding to the incident, they discovered a nearby vehicle that had veered off the road but was not involved in the shootout. Varner was found with a gunshot wound, and officers attempted to provide medical assistance at the scene. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
