When it comes to the best universities in the world, Connecticut is no stranger.

Time recently shared “The World’s Top Universities of 2026,” a ranked list of 250 universities that stand out above the rest. Two colleges from the Nutmeg state managed to crack the list, with one taking second place overall: Yale University with a total score of 88.47.

According to Time, the private university was only beaten by the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom with a score of 90.11.

“The ranking places emphasis on the extent to which students achieve extraordinary success, for instance in patenting new inventions or rising to leadership roles in business,” according to Time.

“These lists help us understand where students are likely to achieve the greatest success and contribute most to society as the world order shifts; U.S. and U.K. universities continue to lead in academic performance, while China’s universities are catching up in innovation and economic impact. But they also reveal an uncomfortable reality: in most countries, these top universities are most accessible to children from high-income families, limiting their socioeconomic diversity.”

The University of Connecticut landed closer to the middle of the pack at 111th, according to Time, with a total score of 61.24. It is the state’s highest, and only, ranked public university.
