CT Olympic roundup: Redding’s Giaccio qualifies for freestyle skiing mogul finals

Olivia Giaccio, a skier who grew up in Redding, finished the qualifying round of the Olympic moguls competition in third place with a score of 80.74, qualifying her for Wednesday’s finals, at the Livigno Snow Park. Giaccio is right behind her USA teammate Elizabeth Lemley, who scored 80.95. Australia’s Jakara Anthony is in first place (81.65).

Giaccio, a two-time Olympian, will compete in the finals Wednesday.

Also on Tuesday, Mac Forehand, a Fairfield native, advanced to the finals of the slopestyle competition but fell on his final run and finished 11th. He will compete in Big Air qualifying on Sunday. He finished 11th in the 2022 Olympics in Big Air.

Kristen Santos-Griswold, a speed skater who grew up in Fairfield, qualified for the next round of the 500 meters Tuesday. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will take place Thursday. Her mixed relay team finished fourth in the B finals Tuesday.
