One person suffered burns during a house fire in Bristol on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at a home at 308 Woodland St. at 9:11 a.m. when firefighters responded to the report of a basement fire in the one-story home, according to Richard Hart, chief of the Bristol Fire Department.

Crews arrived at the scene within minutes and found smoke coming from the home, Hart said in a statement. Firefighters entered the home and began suppressing flames that were found in the basement, according to Hart.

Additional crews that arrived searched the first floor and basement and found no one inside, Hart said. They later verified that everyone inside had gotten themselves out.

The main body of the fire was put out in about eight minutes, Hart said. The rest of it was mostly extinguished by around 9:40 a.m. The flames were contained to the basement and did not extend at all to the first floor.

One person in the home suffered burns and was taken to Bristol Hospital, Hart said. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Bristol Fire Marshal.
