Raphael Bordages Passed Away ; Beloved Dominican Sister Dies At 103yrs: Dominican Sister Raphael Bordages passed away on May 17, 2024, in Houston. Her passing occurred on a Friday. Services will be held at the Mother House Chapel of the Dominican Sisters, which is located at 6501 Almeda Road in Houston. The Reception of the Body will take place on Thursday, May 23, at four o’clock, and a Vigil will take place at six o’clock. On Friday, May 24, the funeral mass will begin at ten in the morning, and the burial will take place at one in the afternoon. The first Dominican Sister of Houston to achieve the century mark, she was 102 years old at the time.
Beaumont was the location where Sister Raphael was born on November 21st, 1921. Marie and Dennie Bordages had a total of thirteen children, and she was one of them. One of the sons went on to become a priest, while five of the six daughters went on to become Dominican Sisters. She received her diploma from St. Anthony School in 1939, having attended that institution. After spending one year at Lamar, she went on to enroll at the convent in the year 1940.
Over the course of her fifty years of teaching, Sister Raphael eventually retired. St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Nederland, St. Mary Catholic School in Orange, and St. Anthony Cathedral School in Beaumont are just a few of the schools throughout Texas and California where she has worked as a teacher. It brought Sister Raphael much joy to instruct the small children.
