Heavy fire at Bristol home leaves eight adults, one infant displaced

Eight adults and an infant were displaced following a two-alarm fire at a home in Bristol on Sunday night.

The fire was reported at a three-story home at on Summer Street at 8:37 p.m. where crews arrived within minutes and found heavy fire at the front of the home, according to the Bristol Fire Department.

The first firefighters on scene began suppressing the fire while others searched the home, fire officials said. Crews learned that everyone in the house had gotten out safely, according to fire officials.

The main body of the fire was put out within 15 minutes, but the construction and layout of the structure led to extensive overhaul efforts in search of hidden pockets of fire, fire officials said. A second alarm was activated based on the cold weather.

Mutual aid station coverage was provided by the New Britain and Southington Fire Departments.

The fire was mostly put out by about 9:30 p.m., fire officials said.

No injuries were reported.

Eight adults and an infant were displaced after the home sustained fire, smoke and water damage, fire officials said. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bristol Fire Marshal.
