Figure skater Maxim Naumov, the Connecticut native, is already an Olympic-sized story whether he wins a medal or not. To chronicle his Winter Games experience, The Courant has enlisted none other than Max’s best friend, Daniel Petrenko. Live from Milan, Petrenko will not only be cheering on his friend, he’ll also be providing readers with an insider’s look as Max chases Olympic glory.

Beginning on Monday and exclusively in The Courant and on courant.com, readers can follow Daniel’s daily diary dispatches from Italy. Petrenko, a former competitive skater himself, is now the director of figure skating at the International Skating Center in Simsbury. His dad, Vladimir, stepped in as Naumov’s coach when Max’s parents were tragically killed in a plane crash.

Follow along on his once-in-a-lifetime trip as Daniel not only roots Max on, but provides his own personal look at the chase for a medal on the sport’s biggest stage.
