A Thomaston man has been arrested on multiple motor vehicle charges in connection with an investigation that prompted state police to make a plea to the public for help identifying a driver who would change license plates and vehicles regularly while driving recklessly to New Milford each day.
Daniel Bryan Nittardi, 22, was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Wednesday on Route 7 North in Brookfield around 7 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police.
Nittardi faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to carry minimum insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to maintain the proper lane, failure to carry vehicle registration or insurance information and misuse of a motor vehicle license plate. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Feb. 19.
State police said the arrest was connected with a plea made to the public for information about a driver who travels west through Washington to New Milford every day around 6:45 a.m. using Route 109. Investigators said they believed the motorist was commuting to work in New Milford.
During the commute, state police said the driver was known to drive in a reckless manner, passing other passenger cars and school buses. The individual was believed to be switching vehicles and license plates regularly. State police released photos of two vehicle the driver was believed to have been recently using, which included a green Subaru Legacy with a Florida dealer plate on it and a red Jeep with an unknown New York plate and plastic on the driver side window.
On one occasion, state police said troopers tried to stop the driver but they took so fast that the pursuit was stopped immediately.
“Many thanks to our partners in public safety — Connecticut residents — who provided tips that led to the arrest of the individual by state police,” the agency said in a statement Thursday.
