A portion of Enfield Square Mall has been closed until multiple repairs can be made after parts of the building sustained water damage during a particularly cold stretch of weather in Connecticut.

A sign was posted on a number of the mall’s doors that read, “Danger, unsafe building. This building is unsafe, and its use or occupancy has been prohibited.”

The repairs were expected to be completed over the weekend but the contractor in charge of them was not able to finish by Monday, according to a statement issued by the mall’s owners. According to records, Nebraska-based Woodsonia Real Estate currently owns and manages the mall.

The damages include a burst sprinkler head in a vacant space and a frozen pipe in the former movie theater, which has been closed to the public since 2023, also led to water damage. Some repairs were expected to be finished Thursday, with additional work to follow, ownership said in their statement.

According to mall’s owners, an HVAC contractor will need to replace the motor for the heater in one of the mall’s sprinkler riser rooms.

The Target store that is attached to the mall remains open, ownership said.

It has not been made clear when the entire mall would reopen.
