Chase Kinchen Obituary – Vermillion Police have disclosed the identity of the man who was shot and killed at a residence in the 600 block of Catalina on Tuesday. As per the official statement, 38-year-old Chase Kinchen from Vermillion forcibly entered the home while carrying a gun, which violated a protection order that prohibited him from contacting the resident or being within 500 feet of the residence.
Law enforcement officers reported that Kinchen made threats towards the resident and a guest. The guest fled to an attached garage, followed by Kinchen who then fired the weapon at the guest. The other individual retrieved a handgun from a vehicle in the garage and shot Kinchen. Kinchen was declared deceased at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that all individuals involved in this incident have been identified and are cooperating with the investigation.
The identity of the third person is being kept confidential under Marsy’s law and will not be disclosed to the public. Witness interviews and an autopsy were carried out by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Vermillion Police Department, and Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
