Caleb Ramirez, an 8-year-old boy from Pharr, Texas, tragically lost his life on April 26 when he was struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was driving without a license and has been cited for the offense.
Caleb was riding his bike across the street in the 700 block of East Eller, where he lived, at around 7 p.m. when the accident occurred. The pickup truck, a GMC Sierra, had just pulled out of a driveway on the opposite side of the street and was traveling at a speed of 25-30 mph when it hit Caleb. Despite efforts to stop, the driver was unable to avoid the collision, and Caleb was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m.
The Pharr Police Department initially reported that the driver had struck Caleb while backing out of the driveway, but later corrected their statement to say that the truck had struck the boy while traveling east on Eller. The case is still under investigation, and no criminal charges have been filed.
Caleb’s family and friends are devastated by his loss, remembering him as a bright and cheerful boy who loved riding his bike and playing with his friends. His community is also mourning the loss of a young life, and many are calling for increased awareness and caution on the roads.
