Police have charged a man in connection with a gunpoint robbery at a convenience store in Meriden in 2023.
Chico Arnaldo Cardona, 23, was arrested last Friday on charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, according to Sgt. Michael Boothroyd of the Meriden Police Department.
Cardona was held on $200,000 bond pending an arraignment hearing, Boothroyd said.
Cardona has been charged in connection with a robbery reported on Aug. 15, 2023, at Sam’s Food Stores located at 343 W. Main St., Boothroyd said. Officers responded to the store just before 1:10 a.m. on the report of an armed robbery involving a firearm.
According to Boothroyd, Cardona was identified as a suspect. Police then obtained a warrant for his arrest but were unable to take him into custody following multiple attempts to find him, Boothroyd said.
“The Meriden Police Department wants our community to know if a dangerous individual comes into our community and commits violent crimes against our residents and business owners, we will use every resource available to identify, arrest, and hold that person fully accountable,” Boothroyd said in a statement. “We will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We will not tolerate those who threaten the safety of our community.”
