Police arrested a man on Thursday who was allegedly going about 100 mph while passing a police officer on Interstate 95.
Amare Bush, 20, of New Haven was arrested after allegedly passing a Town of Groton police officer around 1:30 p.m. while heading north on I-95 in New London going an estimated 100 mph, according to the police department.
Police said the officer watched Bush as he entered Groton where he was allegedly seen going somewhere between 90 to 95 mph while weaving through three lanes of traffic. Police noted that the area, near the Gold Star Memorial Bridge, is a 55 mph zone that regularly sees heavy traffic.
Bush was identified as the driver after an officer stopped him near Exit 87, according to police. Department of Motor Vehicles records showed that he did not possess a valid driver’s license, police said.
Bush was taken into custody on charges of reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without a license. He was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to face a judge in New London Superior Court on Feb. 15.
