Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal crash in Hartford last June when a vehicle he was driving struck a fence and multiple trees before colliding with an empty van.
Jose A. Carrion, 42, of Hartford was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving and failure to drive in the proper lane, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.
Carrion was taken into custody on a warrant after being located by members of the police department’s Fugitive Task Force, Boisvert said. He was taken to the department’s detention facility and held on a $400,000 bond pending an arraignment hearing.
The crash occurred on June 3, 2025, in a rear parking lot at 90 Retreat Ave. shortly before 10 p.m., according to Boisvert. Officers responded to the area and found that a 2001 Acura 3.2 CL had crashed into an unoccupied passenger van in the lot.
All three people in the Acura were suffering from serious injuries, including Carrion who was driving, 38-year-old front seat passenger Christine Camacho of Hartford and an 18-year-old woman who was in the backseat, according to Boisvert. They were taken in ambulances to Hartford Hospital where Camacho was pronounced dead, Boisvert said.
Investigators allege that Carrion was driving north on Franklin Avenue at a “high rate of speed” as he approached the intersection with Maple Avenue, Boisvert said. The vehicle crossed Maple Avenue and left the west side of the road before striking a fence in the rear parking lot on Retreat Avenue.
According to Boisvert, the vehicle then continued into the lot after striking two trees and came to rest against the empty van.
The crash was investigated by the police department’s Crime Scene Division, which obtained a warrant charging Carrion.
