Major central CT mall closes for snow storm; some Hartford line trains canceled

A Connecticut mall has closed its doors for the snow storm today.

Westfarms mall in Farmington announced its closure for Sunday, Jan. 25.

“Due to current weather conditions, we will be closed today. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on our reopening once available,” according to a statement from the mall. “Please note: Individual restaurant and store hours may vary.”

Gov. Ned Lamont declared a state of emergency due to the storm.

An order also is now in effect prohibiting commercial vehicles (this means permitted vehicles, trucks, RVs, tractor trailers, tankers, vehicles with trailers) from traveling on all limited access highways in Connecticut, according to the DOT. That order is in effect until further notice.

Hartford Union Station (HFD) will close to the general public at 1:30 p.m. today, January 25, 2026.

Due to the projected winter weather forecast for Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26, several CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak Hartford Line trains have been cancelled.

On Sunday, Metro-North Railroad will operate a reduced schedule with 309 trains instead of 429. Trains will run hourly on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines, while the New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury branches will run on their regular weekend schedules, according to the railroad.

On Monday, trains will operate on a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday schedule, with 544 trains compared to 671 on a normal weekday schedule. Customers are encouraged to check their trips before traveling, according to the railroad..
