A New Haven man has been sentenced to federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm while on supervised release after he was convicted in federal court for committing carjackings and armed robberies.

Elbert Llorrens, 33, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to 44 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleaded guilty on March 5, 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. He pleaded guilty to the offense on March 5, 2025.

An investigation determined that Llorrens fired a gun into an occupied vehicle on Vine Street in New Haven after a traffic dispute on Feb. 25, 2024, court records show.

Llorrens was arrested by the West Haven Police Department on March 1, 2024, after he was found in possession of a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol, according to court records.

“Subsequent analysis of the firearm using the National Integrated Ballistic Identification Network linked it to three separate gunfire incidents, including the Vine Street shooting on February 25, 2024,” court records show.

Llorrens was previously sentenced in federal court in March 2017 to 60 months in prison and five years of supervised release for committing multiple carjackings and armed robberies, according to court records. Court records show he was on federal supervised release when he possessed the firearm.

“It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Llorrens has been detained since March 1, 2024, court records show.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the New Haven Police Department and the West Haven Police Department.
