One person was seriously injured in a crash involving several vehicles and a motorcycle in Southington on Thursday.

The multi-vehicle collision was reported in the area of Meriden Waterbury Turnpike and Canal Street where emergency crews responded at 1:25 p.m., according to Capt. James Armack of the Southington Police Department.

Armack said police found that four vehicles and a motorcycle were involved. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, according to Armack.

The crash left Meriden Waterbury Turnpike closed in the area of Clark Street and Knotter Drive. Canal Street was also closed at Burritt Street, while Peck Lane was closed in the area of West Johnson Avenue in Cheshire, Armack said.

Motorists were asked to avoid the closure areas as police investigated.
