After killing a 35-year-old Joliet woman with a kitchen knife, her murderer stabbed himself to death. Joliet police said the married couple’s 3-year-old child was inside the house and unharmed. Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, a murder-suicide occurred, according to Joliet police spokesperson Dwayne English. According to English, Joliet police responded to a stabbing incident involving a woman in the roadway around 11:10 a.m. at the 3400 block of Pandola Avenue, which is close to the intersection of Timberline Drive.
According to English, when police arrived, they found a 35-year-old woman down in the roadway with several stab wounds to her chest. Subsequently, the officers discovered a 32-year-old male unconscious in a neighboring driveway, likewise suffering from several chest stab wounds. Police said they discovered the man was the woman’s estranged spouse and that they were divorcing. According to Joliet police, the man was the one who physically attacked his wife. When he got to her house, there was a fight, which made her flee.
With a kitchen knife in hand, the man pursued the woman. English claimed that after catching up to the victim on the street close to the house, he started stabbing her in the chest many times. According to the police, witnesses saw the man repeatedly stabbing himself in the chest after he had attacked the woman. The victim’s driveway was where Joliet police found the man lying on the ground. The knife that was used in the assault was found. The Joliet Fire Department transported the man and lady to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where they passed away.
In the course of their thorough canvassing of the neighborhood, officers and detectives spoke with witnesses to the occurrence. When Joliet police discovered that the couple’s 3-year-old boy was present at the residence during the event, they notified the Department of Children and Family Services in accordance with Illinois’ mandatory reporting requirements. There was no danger to the child. According to the authorities, nobody else was discovered at the residence. The Will County Coroner’s Office will identify the husband and wife and determine the manner of death.
