A man suffered life-threatening injuries during a shooting in Bloomfield on Tuesday night.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area of 71 Elizabeth Ave. at 8:26 p.m. and found that several vehicles were involved, according to the Bloomfield Police Department. The victim was believed to have fled in a red car, police said.

Officers found shell casings at the scene and reached out to several area hospitals asking if any of them were treating a gunshot victim. According to police, Hartford Hospital reported treating a 40-year-old man who was suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds to his chest, side and arm.

Police responded to the hospital but were unable to speak to the victim, who underwent surgery. The Hartford Police Department assisted in securing the vehicle the victim arrived in, which was seized by Bloomfield police.

“At this time it is believed that there are no other victims,” the police department wrote in a statement.

Police said they did not have a description of the suspected shooter. The police department’s Detective Unit is still investigating.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Bloomfield Police Department at 860-242-5501.
