Following a major dining room and menu upgrade, a popular Connecticut Italian restaurant is now popping with meatballs Nonna likely never imagined making.

Yes, have the classic Nonna’s meatballs of Ragu, basil, ricotta, but they’ve also added duck confit meatballs with agrodolce and fruit mostarda; fancy meatballs of maitake, truffle crema, sauteed mushrooms; spicy veal meatballs of veal, pork, porcini mushrooms, parmesan cream.

They call it the “Meat-a-Ball” section and it can all be served over fresh, pasta made in house.

The restaurant, Todd English’s Tuscany, is among the most popular, memorable and unique at Mohegan Sun that’s less known for it’s name than its location on the main concourse behind a cascading wall of water. English is a celebrity chef.

The restaurant with a bar that’s open to Mohegan Sun’s main concourse was closed for about a month while it got a “bold” new look and elevated menu, a spokesman for the casino said.

“As we enter the New Year we’re thrilled to welcome guests back to Todd English’s Tuscany after significant improvements to the overall dining atmosphere.” said Chris Greaney, vice president of Food & Beverage at Mohegan Sun.

“Tuscany is a fan-favorite at Mohegan Sun, and the new  enhancements to the venue and menu reflect our commitment to delivering unmatched dining experiences. Whether you’re joining us for brunch, lunch, or dinner, we’ve created something truly special for every occasion.”

Guests will dine in what is dubbed an “elegant” setting after the extensive update with modern touches while preserving the warmth that helps make it so popular.

The new menu is designed to be as bold as the decor.

“Inspired entrees” as the restaurant calls them them include Tuscany classics like New York strip and chicken parmesan with new additions, including Wagyu Bolognese; lobster Fra Diavolo and Chilean sea bass marsala.

One online reviewer/guest who’s been back since the upgrades wrote, “The atmosphere is really nice; service was great . The veal chop Milanese was delicious and with the spaghetti side it was a plentiful dish. Their flatbread pizza has always been one of my favorites and this time they didn’t disappoint.”

The restaurant is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner Sunday through Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m., with extended hours on Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.

Weekend brunch at Tuscany is known for its excellence, featuring a complimentary glass of Champagne or mimosa and a rotating selection of favorites such as eggs benedict, omelet and carving stations, assorted pastries, salads, and more.

One online reviewer wrote: “The weekend buffet is to die for and the food selection is unbeatable.”

For those seeking a vast range of authentic Italian cuisine, The Tuscan Table buffet at lunch offers a variety of antipasti, salads, pastas, desserts, and a choice of non-alcoholic beverage.

As part of the overall refresh to the restaurant, renovations to the popular Taughannick Falls Bar began January 5 and is planned to be completed by the kick-off of the 22nd annual Sun Wine & Food Fest starting Jan. 22.

Adam Young, owner of Sift Bake Shop at Mohegan Sun and in Mystic, as well as owner of  A.T.Y. Bar & Bonbons, will host “immersive experiences” throughout the weekend.
