Freeman Sherman, Jr Obituary – Freeman Sherman, Jr. was fatally shot by an MPD officer in the early hours of Friday, May 10, in the 3000 block of Dumbarton Road, as confirmed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). Upon receiving reports of a stabbing, two MPD officers arrived at the residence on Dumbarton Road. Sherman, armed with multiple knives, was located in an upstairs bedroom. The TBI reported that Sherman attacked the officers with a knife, causing one of them to fall down the stairs. Subsequently, the other officer fired shots, resulting in the death of the 39-year-old man.
A stabbing victim was discovered at the scene and was promptly transported to the hospital in critical condition. The TBI stated that the injured officer is expected to recover from the non-critical injuries sustained during the incident.
A resident of the Scenic Hills community expressed surprise at the police activity in the neighborhood, emphasizing that such occurrences are uncommon in the area. Gary McClain of the Scenic Hills Homeowner Association highlighted the tight-knit nature of the neighborhood.
In a separate incident, a person was shot and killed by an officer during a domestic violence altercation in Raleigh on the same morning, according to the police.
