Zoo Miami announced the death of Tango, a Patagonian mara, following a decline in health due to advanced age.
The Zoo said that after efforts to maintain his quality of life, the decision was made to euthanize Tango, who served as an iconic ambassador for over a decade.
Tango arrived at Zoo Miami in 2010 after being found in a parking lot.
Patagonian maras, resembling a mix of rodent, hare, and deer, are native to central and southern Argentina.
They are monogamous, with a gestation period of 100 days and typically live up to 14 years under human care.
