Adrian Stubbs, a senior basketball player at Phoenix Maryvale High School in Arizona, scored a state-record 100 points to lead Phoenix Maryvale to a 109-25 win over Yuma Kofa on Tuesday.

Stubbs’ 100-point performance shatters the previous Arizona state record of 75 points, held by Fredonia High School’s George McCormick since the 1965-66 season, according to The Arizona Republic.

In fact, Stubbs was only five points away from the record at halftime, having scored all 70 of Phoenix Maryvale’s points in the first half. He scored 30 more points in the third quarter before sitting for the entire fourth quarter.

Stubbs becomes one of 20 players who have ever scored 100 points or more in a high school basketball game, according to MaxPreps.

“I think I had 35 at the end of the first quarter and my coach gave me the green light,” Stubbs told The Republic. “I was going to go.

“That was probably the most unselfish game (from teammates) I’ve ever seen in my life. Without them, this would not be possible. All of those passes. All the steals. It’s a huge shout out to them,” he added.

Stubbs, who came into the game averaging 23.9 points per game, scored most of his points on mid-range jump shots, according to The Republic. He made six 3-pointers in the game.

“He went insane,” Phoenix Maryvale head coach Jeremy Smith said. “What he did in the first half was special. We left him in. It was incredible.”

Phoenix Maryvale plays at the 6A level, where the previous record for most points scored in a game was 57 points by former Arizona Wildcats star Nico Mannion. McCormick scored his previous-state record 75 points for Fredonia at the 1A level.

Stubbs’ previous career-high was 56 points scored in a win over Liberty as a junior last season.

“Before the season started, we had team goals. And we have individual goals. One of his individual goals was to beat Nico Mannion’s record of 57,” Smith said.

Stubbs currently has no scholarship offers from four-year colleges, just junior colleges, according to The Republic. He is averaging 23.9 points, 7.1 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game this season, per MaxPreps.

Phoenix Maryvale improves to 10-6 this season with the win, while Yuma Kofa drops to 2-12.
