Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 8, 2024 – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Michael Gibbons, affectionately known as Tommy, a cherished member of the Halifax community whose legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication to helping others will forever be remembered. Born on August 14, 1987, Tommy touched the lives of countless individuals with his compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to making a difference.
As a dedicated and highly respected officer of the Halifax Regional Police, Tommy earned the admiration of both his colleagues and the community he served. Known for his kind-hearted nature and willingness to lend a helping hand, he exemplified the true essence of public service and left an indelible mark on those he encountered.
Prior to his career in law enforcement, Tommy excelled as a talented athlete, particularly in football. A proud alum of the QEH Lions football program and former player for the Saint Mary’s Huskies, he showcased his passion and skill on the field, earning the respect of teammates and opponents alike.
Beyond his professional and athletic achievements, Tommy’s greatest joy came from spending time with his cherished friends and family. He is survived by his loving sister Elizabeth Gibbons, grandmother Frances Beattie, in-laws Michael and Elaine (Castel) Forhan, and devoted parents Gerard and Nancy (Beattie) Gibbons. He also leaves behind his beloved puppy, Brady, and his dear sweetheart Jillian Elaine Forhan.
In honor of Tommy’s memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Nova Scotia, an organization that held a special place in his heart. Tommy was a staunch advocate for mental health awareness and frequently encouraged others to seek support when needed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the courtside lounge of Saint Mary’s University’s Homburg Centre (The Tower). All are welcome to attend and pay tribute to Tommy’s remarkable life, with the celebration beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Tommy’s friends and family invite the community to join them in honoring his extraordinary legacy and contributions. Let us come together to support one another during this time of grief and continue Tommy’s legacy of compassion and advocacy for mental health awareness.
Though Tommy may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
