An elementary school in Westport was evacuated on Monday morning after authorities received a bomb threat.
The threat was directed at Coleytown Elementary School and was received by the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center through a 911 text message, according to Capt. Jillian Cabana of the Westport Police Department.
The school was put into a two-hour delay and staff and students who were already there were relocated to a neighboring school, Cabana said. Buses that were en route were diverted elsewhere. According to Cabana, nearby Coleytown Middle School was put into a shelter-in-place mode.
The elementary school was searched by Westport, Fairfield and Norwalk explosive detection K-9 units as well as the Stamford Police Department’s Bomb Squad. No explosives were found, Cabana said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Westport Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
The superintendent of Westport Public Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
