Officers responded to the area of 263 Birch St. around 5:31 p.m. on Thursday on a report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist, according to the Bristol Police Department.
A preliminary investigation determined that the bicyclist, identified as a man in his 30s, was struck by an SUV that allegedly fled the scene, police said. During the impact, the man was thrown from the bicycle into the roadway, at which time a second vehicle also struck him, according to police.
Police said the man sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital by Life Star and was listed in critical condition on Thursday night.
Witnessed reported that the fleeing vehicle was a silver SUV with front-end damage, police said. The driver of the second vehicle, who police said did not see the bicyclist in the roadway, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, according to police.
The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to conduct the ongoing investigation.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area of the crash while investigators were on the scene.
