According to the LASD, the South LA station requested an ambulance for an unresponsive deputy around 4 p.m. He died at the scene.
The Deputy was identified as 41-year-old Stewart, a Deputy who joined the Department as a custody assistant in 2006.
“Jonathan joined the Department in 2006 as a custody assistant, and a year later he graduated from academy class #364, honourably serving the residents of Los Angeles County,” the LASD said in a post on Facebook.
“During his tenure, he was assigned to the Inmate Reception Center before transferring to South Los Angeles Station in 2014. In 2020, he was promoted to Field Training Officer, a position he held until his passing.
“Jonathan dedicated a decade serving the South Los Angeles community, he was respected and highly regarded by his peers and supervisors for his unwavering commitment,”
Stewart leaves behind a wife and three children.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of his death.
Meanwhile, a procession was held Sunday from the sheriff’s station to the medical examiner’s office in Boyle Heights.
